From a modest two-room beauty salon in Camp Hill, CEO and Founder Stephanie Shepherd has evolved her brand into a portfolio of highly regarded luxury spas across South East Queensland; offering spa escapes to everyone from international celebrities and corporate high flyers, to everyday Mum’s and Dad’s.
Stephanie Shepherd spent much of her childhood in the NSW outback town of Broken Hill. Inspired by her Mothers lipstick collection, Stephanie began experimenting with beauty items at a young age and reveled in the joy of creating customised mud masks for skeptical members of the family. At 16, Stephanie moved to Adelaide to complete a course in Beauty Therapy before she returned briefly to work in Broken Hill.
The family relocated to the NSW Coast of Tweed Heads when Stephanie was 18. Determined to pursue a career in beauty therapy, the eager teenager started applying for positions in the “big smoke”, Brisbane. A typical adolescent argument with Dad saw Stephanie head north sooner than expected and, as fate would have it; within days she had secured a beauty therapist role.
The next few years saw Stephanie work in a variety of beauty industries across Queensland. At the age of just 26, with 10 years experience already under her belt, Stephanie opened her own business in Camp Hill, a modest two-room beauty therapy salon called “Stephanies Natural Beauty”.
A loyal and expanding base of clients saw Shepherd soon outgrow the business premise, resulting in the relocation to the up-market suburb of Bulimba.
“I had a vision and desire to combine beauty therapies with peaceful places of harmony and balance. I dreamt of creating more than a beauty therapist salon. I wanted to design spas where people could cocoon themselves from the outside world. Even if my clients were only visiting for a short time, I wanted them to feel like they had entered another world when they stepped through the doors,” says Shepherd.
Stephanies Urban Spa officially opened in Bulimba in 2002, proving a popular haven for local clientele. The Urban Spa features 12 treatment rooms and specialises in maintenance beauty therapies, as well as advanced skin care and microdermabrasion.
Stephanies Spa Retreat, located on level three of Sofitel Brisbane Central opened in June 2007 and is a welcome city escape for “locals in the know”, visiting celebrities and hotel guests. The spa boasts 8 treatments rooms, including individual suites and a couple’s suite. The sensory and tranquility lounges are ideal for group bookings and are popular for hen’s evenings, pre-wedding parties and baby showers.
The “Opal Rasul Temple” is undoubtedly the masterpiece of Stephanies Spa Retreat. The unique mosaic dome style cave is the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and its benefits have been enjoyed by the likes of many sports identities and musical starlets, including the talented Alicia Keys.
Opening in July 2010, Stephanies Ocean Spa was the next jewel of the crown. Located in the heart of cosmopolitan Noosa at the new Outrigger Little Hastings Street Resort & Spa. A leisurely stroll to the designer boutiques and culinary delights of Noosa’s famed Hastings Street. Spanning more than 450 square metres and boasting 11 magnificent treatment rooms including couples suites, a triple treatment suite with private floatation pool and a rain therapy vichy shower, complete with a stunning hand crafted acacia cedar shower bed.
Committed to the high standards of spa, Stephanie Shepherd is an active member of the APAA (Australian Professional Aesthetician Association), the ASPA (Australian Spa Association) and the ISPA (International Spa Association).
Stephanie’s reputation as a leader in the spa industry is evident in her spa locations, from luxury international hotels, to the chic urban hub of Bulimba.
The passionate Queensland spa identity opened her fourth location in 2011, a Mountain Spa, located at Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge, Spa and Vineyard – a scenic 35 minute journey from Brisbane CBD. The hinterland spa retreat spans approximately 180 square metres over six magnificent treatment suites; including a hydro couples suite, a grand Boudreaux VIP lounge and bath suite, a triple treatment room, a steam therapy cave, unique hydro swiss shower room and a sole therapy and manicure lounge; which can accommodate up to 7 people at one time.
Stephanie’s signature Tranquility Lounge overlooks the resorts manicured gardens and lush treetops of the mountain below; the perfect setting to rebalance and relax with herbal tea and seasonal fruit sorbet.
Stephanies desire for beautiful spa destinations saw her acquire a fifth luxury spa in July 2012. Formerly known as L’Plunge Home & Spa, Stephanies Vintage Spa Cleveland combines old world charm, with a touch of modern decadence and European style synonymous with Stephanies Spa brand.
Originally built in 1852, Stephanies Vintage Spa Cleveland is an historical landmark in the vibrant bayside village. Once the local doctor’s house, the timeless Queenslander dwelling has been lovingly restored with shabby chic interiors and a provincial inspired courtyard.
The spa layout is deceivingly spacious, with the quaint cottage style shop front opening through to a magnificent, multi level opulent day spa spanning over two separate dwellings. Stephanies Vintage Spa will centre on Shepherd’s unique spa philosophies, adapting a new menu and various signature treatments that reflect the Stephanie brand.
