The Spa

The fourth spa to open under the Stephanies® brand, the Mountain Spa might be a 30-minute drive from downtown Brisbane but it’s a world away in setting and serenity. Part of Accor’s lush Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge, Spa and Vineyard, Stephanies® offers six stylish spa suites including a hydrotherapy room, a steam therapy “cave” and the Bordeaux Lounge, where wine-inspired treatments can be enjoyed, all overlooking lush manicured gardens.

The Experience

The property is hemmed by a vineyard, so it’s only natural that wine is on my mind when I book my mind when I book my spa treatment: the “Grape Escape.” And it’s just that. The ritual begins with a full-body exfoliation using an aromatic scrub made from crushed pinot noir grapes. I’m not one to mix my drinks but as my therapist hands me a glass of organic wine she also urges me to step into a deep, stone bath topped up with Bordeaux. It would be rude to refuse… So I sip and let the steam engulf me, safe in the knowledge that the antioxidants in the grapes are doing my skin and my stress levels all manner of good. A massage follows and the treatment finally ends, three hours later, with refreshments in a relaxation lounge offering panoramic views over the gardens. it’s a blissful way to spend half a day; those with limited time will be happy to know that individual vinotherapy treatments are also available. Stephanies® Mountain Spa not only has one of the most expansive spa menus around but also one of the most exciting with a host of unusual treatments on offer. The “Hot Stone Crystal Massage” incorporates warmed volcanic basalt stones and crystals to relieve muscle tension while the “Tibetan Sacred Massage” os a holistic ritual with Ayurvedic practices and a herbal, heat-revival procedure. The “Shirobyanga” is also designed to balance your chakra through lymphatic drainage and a massage targeting acupuncture points. If that’s not enough indulgence, Stephanies offers a good range of facials, manicures and pedicures, and beauty treatments.

The Accommodation

Set on 20 hectares of native bushland on the outskirts of Brisbane, the Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge, Spa and vineyard is an ideal destination for a mimi-break. From its hilltop perch the property offers unbroken views over the Glasshouse Mountains and Moreton Bay islands, its 53 rooms and apartments tiered down a gentle slope, Accommodations all come with private patios and are furnished in earthy hues; book the Privilege Room and you’ll enjoy added niceties such as a spa bath, complimentary internet access, and gourmet coffee and chocolates. A restaurant featuring locally sourced produce – try the crispy-skinned king snapper with blood orange and shaved fennel – a bar and a pool round out the facilities.

The Retreat is currently offering a number of room-and-spa packages including the ‘Mountain Fresh Couples Escape,” which includes accommodation in a Stephanies® couples suite, two one -hour massages, a cheese platter and late check-out.
